And so the day has come that I must say goodbye to my creative home away from home The Wrong Crowd Bar. It makes me sad to not be there for the closing night this Saturday but know that my debaucherous self is there in spirit.
The Wrong Crowd, for me, was the chance to create a true Cabaret and Burlesque scene somewhere other than Melbourne. TWC was a safe place to try new works, introduce new performers to the stage (be it Cabaret or Burlesque) and give something a little bit different to the deprived audiences of Geelong. From the moment I walked in the Bar nearly two years ago, I was welcomed and with over 30 shows done (majority sell outs) it was no doubt that a wonderful friendship was formed.
So thank you to The Wrong Crowd, for allowing me the opportunity to meet some of the most amazing people I know. From fans who came and supported the Burlesque/Cabaret shows, to my fellow performers themselves who I have forged amazing friendships with or just the like minded people who don’t fit the status quo and like myself felt a wonderful connection to the bar.
Thank you for my most treasured memories.
To Captain Ric, Tace and Kerry, Thank you for creating this speakeasy/vintage inspired artistic hub where artists, musicians, actors, poets, dancers and alike can gather. Ric, thank you for believing in me & my ideas (however bizarre they were) but at least we have some memorable shows to reminisce about in the future.
I will miss, as much as you will, chatting with whomever made the journey into the bar that evening, each with their own story to tell.
To the fans of my shows and the Burlesque, thank you for supporting our work…And know that this will not mean the end of Burlesque/Cabaret in Geelong. Lots in the pipeline, just spread the word and continue to support us. Without you we are nothing.
So get down to The Wrong Crowd this Weekend and enjoy it for one last time!! I recommend the Elle Gabrielle
